What is Notion AI?
Notion AI is the set of AI features built into Notion, the all-in-one workspace for notes, documents, wikis, tasks and databases. You can ask it to draft or edit pages, translate text, fill in database fields, write formulas, take meeting notes and answer questions from your workspace. Notion Agent can carry out multi-step jobs, such as building a project tracker from a brief, and Custom Agents can run on a schedule or trigger to handle routine team work.
What sets Notion AI apart is that it works on your own organised content rather than a blank chat window. It can also search connected apps such as Slack, Google Drive and GitHub. Notion chooses between models from several AI providers, or lets you pick one. It makes most sense for teams already using Notion; if you just want a chatbot, a standalone assistant will be cheaper.
Notion AI key features
Notion Agent
Handles multi-step tasks using your workspace, connected apps and the web, and can create or edit pages and databases. Saves time on setup work like building trackers or summarising projects.
Custom Agents
Automations your team builds once and shares, running on a trigger or schedule, for example answering common Slack questions or routing tasks. They are billed with Notion credits at about $10 per 1,000 credits.
AI Meeting Notes
Transcribes and summarises meetings and pulls out action items without adding a bot to the call. Included on Business plans (currently in Beta).
Enterprise Search
Searches across Notion and connected tools like Slack, Google Drive and GitHub, and answers with citations. Included on Business plans (Beta).
Research Mode
Builds detailed reports and summaries on a topic, useful for briefs and background research.
Writing help in pages
AI blocks and inline editing can draft, rewrite, shorten or translate text directly where you are working.
Database Autofill and formulas
Automatically fills database properties, such as summaries or tags, and can write formulas for you.
Model choice
On Auto, Notion picks a model from multiple AI providers; you can also choose a model yourself, which uses Select credits.
Privacy controls
Notion says it does not train its models on your data unless you opt in, and its AI providers are contractually barred from training on customer data.
Who uses Notion AI, and how
Keep a content calendar database and let Autofill tag ideas and summarise drafts. Ask Notion Agent to turn a brief into a script outline page.
Use Enterprise Search to find answers buried in Slack, Drive and Notion docs. Custom Agents can answer repeat team questions automatically.
Record meetings with AI Meeting Notes and turn the action items into tasks in a project database.
Organise notes and ask the AI to summarise them or create study outlines. Note that full AI needs a Business plan; the free Education Plan does not list AI.
Draft client proposals and reports from templates, then use AI to polish and translate them for clients.
